What is home health care?
Home health care is a cost-effective alternative to hospitalization or other institutional
care that allows patients to receive skilled nursing and rehabilitative services
in their home environment. Services are based on a patient’s needs as defined by
his or her physician's plan of care and may include skilled nurses, physical therapists,
occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, medical social workers and/or
home health aides.
What are the advantages of home health care?
In many cases, home health care permits a patient to be discharged earlier from
a hospital and reduces hospital admissions. For the patient it allows for a more
rapid recovery as they receive skilled care in the comfort of their home. In fact,
research shows that seniors who stay in the familiar, comfortable environment of
their home function better mentally and physically and may extend the quality and
length of their lives.
Who uses home health care?
People of all ages use home health care services. Someone who uses home care may
be those who:
- are discharged from a hospital or nursing home but need additional care
- have short-term health needs
- are terminally ill and want to live their final days with dignity surrounded by
their loved ones in the comfort of their own home
- need assistance, due to age or disability, to remain at home
- need education about the disease process and training on how to best care for themselves
Who qualifies for home health care?
Patients who are:
- Home bound (per Medicare guidelines: home bound status includes those patients
that are unable to leave their place of residence due to an illness or injury)
- Under the care of a physician
- Recovering from surgery or hospitalization
Who pays for home health care services?
Medicare, Medicaid or other health insurances may cover the cost of home health
care services. Some insurance policies will not cover all home health care services
unless certain conditions are met. Comprehensive Homecare is certified for reimbursement
through Medicare and Medicaid. We accept private pay and participate with most commercial
insurances including Auto/Workers Comp. For questions or concerns regarding your

How do I arrange for home health care?
Referrals may be made through the patient’s physician. While a physician must provide
a referral for care, the patient has the right to select the provider of his/her
choice. Comprehensive Homecare accepts referrals 7 days a week. You can also call
